HOUSTON – A suspicious early-morning house fire in Southwest Houston is now under investigation for possible arson, authorities confirmed Friday.

Houston Fire Department crews responded around 3:15 a.m. to reports of a blaze at a vacant two-story home on Dunlap Street near South Post Oak Road. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes, but the property sustained heavy interior damage.

Investigators say there were no utilities connected to the home and no indication that anyone was living inside, raising red flags.

“There were multiple ignition points and signs of forced entry,” said HFD Arson Investigator Marcus Hill. “This is now being treated as a deliberate act.”

No injuries were reported. Nearby homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but residents have since returned. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Houston Arson Bureau.
