HOUSTON – Two upscale med spas in the Houston area—Dermanova Med Spa and Beautiful You Medspa & Aesthetics—were raided this week following an undercover operation into illegal Botox and filler injections. Five individuals have been arrested, and authorities say this may only be the beginning.
Both businesses were recently marked as permanently closed on Yelp, with users citing sudden shutdowns in the last week. On the surface, the med spas appeared legitimate; modern interiors, polished branding, and a strong social-media presence. But behind the scenes, investigators say, unlicensed workers were performing medical-grade injections on unsuspecting clients.
“It’s not just about shady backrooms anymore,” said HPD Lt. Carla Moreno. “These were spas that looked high-end and trustworthy until you asked for credentials.”

👤 The Arrests
Authorities confirmed five individuals were arrested across both locations:
1. Jazmín Rocha, 38 – Marketed herself as “Botox by J.R.” with no medical license
2. Katrina Huerta, 29 – Initially hired as a receptionist at Beautiful You MedSpa, later began injecting clients after internal “training”
3. Camila Sarmiento, 44 – Owner of Dermanova Med Spa, holds certifications in skincare and wellness, but no legal authority to oversee or perform injectables
4. Lisette Cordero, 41 – Operating manager at Beautiful You, oversaw scheduling of injection appointments despite knowing the injectors were unlicensed
5. Melissa Garza, 35 – Claimed to have a Physician’s License but investigations show her only having a professional injector certificate
All five face charges of practicing medicine without a license, with potential additions including fraud, conspiracy, and endangerment.

💉 Where Did the Products Come From?
Investigators are actively tracing the source of the Botox and fillers. Early leads point to a licensed physician who may have illegally sold medical injectables to the spa owners. The physician has not been named but is under investigation.
“We’re tracking inventory records and payment trails,” said Harris County D.A. investigator Juanita Alvarez. “We believe there’s a wider supply chain behind this.”
Some clients have reported complications following their procedures, including facial paralysis, vision impairment, and swelling. The Texas Medical Board says this incident reflects a growing trend of luxury-looking med spas operating outside the law.
